This Brother ScanNcut letter welding tutorial will take you through the way to weld letters together so when your creating your projects it’s going to give them a cleaner cut and a more professional look.

For this article I’m going to be using the Brother ScanNcut machine and if you haven’t seen this machine already you can view it here and see some of its best features

I’m sure after trying this welding tutorial on this amazing craft cutting machine you’re going to wonder what you ever did before getting it.

You can scan an image into the machine whether this is an image that you have drawn or an image you already have. After scanning you can then get the machine to cut this out from paper, card or mdf of your choice.

You can also cut images that are already banked in the machine.

It also has an added feature of using the pens that come with it to draw onto your paper whether it be an image you have scanned in or one of the images or lettering that are already pre-loaded on the machine.  There is a lot of potential with this machine and it is a big game changer in the life of a home crafter.

Along with the preloaded images there is also the possibility of getting more images onto the machine via a USB stick. These files are called SVG files and there are lots available on the internet. Here is a handy link we have put together with the best free svg cut files

Included within this particular craft cutting machine,  there is a range of different font letters, and today we will be creating a word by selecting the separate letters and then welding the letters together so they can be cut out as one piece that you can use in your project. This will save time as the whole word is cut out at once and gives your finished piece a more professional look.

For this letter welding tutorial I will be using the Brother ScanNCut CM300, However you can also use the CM350, or to that effect any craft cutting machine with a digital screen as the principle is still the same.  if you wish to purchase one there is a link here…..

2- Press the pattern icon button then select the ‘Aa’ key to change to a font of your choice. Once you have found a font you are happy with press SELECT. For the purpose of this letter welding tutorial I will be using the top right font shown in this photo. A basic box font will be easier to try for your first go as you will need to overlap the letters later on and this is easier to do with a font like this.

3- In order to be able to weld the letters together, they need to be added to the mat separately one at a time. I will be using the sentiment ‘CHRISTMAS’ as an example. To select your first letter in this example the letter C press the letter with your stylus then press OK. This is the point where you can adjust the size of your letters when you are happy press the SET button.

Letter Welding Tutorial Part 2 : Welding the letters

We are now going to be welding the letters together that you have added to the mat in the previous steps.

Steps:

1- To weld the letters of the word ‘CHRISTMAS’ together the letters need to be overlapping slightly. Select the ACCESS ALL AREAS button (top left hand button in photo) and a red square will appear around the last letter of the sentiment (CHRISTMAS) and by using the arrows on the right of the screen you will be able to move the red square. Press the left arrow until the red box is around the second letter of the word Christmas.

2- Press the four arrows button on your craft cutting machine then press the left arrow until the second letter is slightly overlapping the first letter. You can check on this by using the magnify button on your screen (shown by the magnify plus sign), press this button again for more detail. I found working at 400% best. Repeat these steps until all letters within Christmas overlap then press OK.

3- Select the three red boxes button then tap the image of the mat to group the sentiment and then press OK followed by the weld button (the button with the circle and triangle joined as shown in the photo.) Then press the OK button.
